Read the terms in this order

Ignore the headline percentage. It is the least informative number in the offer. Read these five instead, and read them before you accept anything:

• The wagering multiple. How many times over the amount must be staked before anything is withdrawable. This single number decides whether the offer is worth taking.
• What the multiple applies to. The promotional amount alone, or the promotional amount plus your deposit? The second is roughly twice the work for the same headline.

What a play-through requirement really costs

The arithmetic is worth doing once, properly, because it is the whole subject.

Suppose you receive Rs500 of promotional credit carrying a 20x requirement. Twenty times five hundred is Rs10,000 of turnover you must put through the games before any of it can leave. Now recall that every game in the lobby keeps a percentage of turnover rather than a percentage of your deposit. Pushing Rs10,000 of turnover through a lobby with a built-in edge has an expected cost, and on realistic numbers that expected cost is a meaningful fraction of the Rs500 you were being given.

That is not a reason never to accept an offer. It is the reason to stop thinking of one as free money and to start thinking of it as a discount on entertainment you were going to buy anyway. If you were not going to play Rs10,000 of turnover without the offer, the offer has not given you anything, it has talked you into a much bigger session than you planned.
